The Dice Cubes - Make Me Motor 2020

  Edmonton, Alberta's The Dice Cubes have been heating up the northlands now for a few years now.Yet there are many who claim they are one of Alberta's best kept secrets. One thing for sure is that they sit at the corner of rock n roll and rockabilly.But there is way more to this outfit as they throw in shades of blues,americana , r&b,jazz and more into the mix.As a result for many people it's hard to pigeon hold them to any one genre.With 2 albums already under their belts they have shown to be a damn strong and diverse band that isn't afraid to gamble.The band's latest album "Make Me Motor" has just dropped and once again we get a kool mix bag of goodies.With 14 original tracks that range straight up rockers to slow burners.It's a rockabilly/ rock n roll album that shifts styles and becomes  a tour de force.We all have heard the saying "something for everyone" ,while it's true here.Highlights include: "Shiny & Chrome", "The Beater", "Memories Of You", "Death Of Me" and "Make Me Motor".

   
   With each album,The Dice Cubes get better and " Make Me Motor" is easily their best.These cats shift gears with ease and the result is a very engaging,enjoyable and freakin' kool ride.Highly recommended!!

Snakebite - Rock Rumble & Roll 2019

   It's always a  good thing when Sweden's Snakebite puts out a new album.It's pretty much a sure bet that when these cats put out something new ,it's going to be damn sweet.Their latest and 11th album " Rock Rumble & Roll" delivers the goods once again. This time out we 9 originals and 4 covers of killer or as some say kick ass rock n roll. Pulling no surprises here,we get a kool mix of teddy boy rock,rockabilly to straight up rock n roll and a little splash of the blues. It's flat out kool and just may be their best releases so far.There isn't a week track to found here.Highlights include: "Fantasy Lady", "Down The Highway", " Rock Rumble & Roll" and the smokin' "It's Too Late".

         
       " Rock Rumble & Roll" is another top shelf release from Snakebite .This is fun ,stout rock n roll that lights a fire under your ass.It's also an album you gotta pick up. Highly recommended!!

Night Nurse - The Antidote 2019

   Love them or not, psychobilly cats Night Nurse are a band that has constantly gotten better with every release .Their S/T debut back in 2014  put them on the map and they followed it up with the stout ep  "First Aid"in 2015.Then they really step it up with the kool "Nurse U 2 Death " ep in 2017. Not  standing still they put themselves out there with a  smokin' cover of "Hot  Stuff" late last year.Don't kid yourself ,that was a pretty ballsy move.Disco infused psychobilly is a  risky venture and only  confident and damn good bands  can pull it off. That said one may be hard pressed to guess what  musical direction  Night Nurse is headed .Well their latest offering "The Antidote" lays down the cards hard and is easily their best release so far.This puppy smashes in with 11 original tracks and is damn killer.From straight up psychobilly to punk, hardrock, a little ska and some more  disco infusion .Hell they also throw in a slow burner and all 3 tracks  from the "Nurse U 2 Death " ep.In other words they really mix it up big.Highlights include: "Tell Me How", "Ding A Ling", "Self Esteem" and "Baby Blue".

     
Night Nurse is flexing their muscles with " The Antidote" and as a result this is a flat out winner.It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it's one you should take a shot of. Highly recommended!

Doyley & The Twanglords - Return Of The Twangi 2019

 
It's been around 2 years now since Doyley & The Twanglords released the impressive "Twang Solo" and now they are striking back with part 2 of the trilogy; "Return Of The Twangi ".This time out they stay the course and if you liked "Twang Solo" your sure as hell are going to love this one.Once again we get 20 tracks that deliver a sweet mix bag of instrumental rock and surf.This is one stacked album that has a whack of originals,a couple of covers,some demos and even a kool version of the Guitar Slinger's "Cybermen".As you would expect it's loaded  with sci-fi action ,some spaghetti to straight up surf  and more. Highlights include:"Botz", "Kicks Back", "Collision Earth","Grinder" and "Space and Twang"
   From start to finish "Return Of The Twangi" will color you impressed. It's one puppy you want to bring home and you'll be glad you did.Highly recommended!!!

No Hit Makers - For Evermore 2019

  For a bunch of cats that have been around for over 10 years the No Hit Makers  have a pretty limited  but impressive rap sheet. With a self-titled 4 track ep, released in 2010 and 1 track on the  " Rockers Kulture - The French Rockabilly Scene #1, also in 2010.Their  next release was ,1 track off the 2014 "Four On Fur" compilation.They are a band that for many has slipped through the cracks.That's a shame because this is one stout outfit that knows how to dish out some sweet neo rockabilly.With the recent release of their debut album "For Evermore" they have resurfaced in a big way.This rockin' slab of neo rockabilly/ rock n roll aims to please and succeeds.Punching the clock with 10 originals and 1 cover. Two of the tracks(both standouts); "You Can Cry" and "Blind and Deaf "were previously released.Overall this is a brisk and killer ride that will have you up and moving.Hell it's also damn refreshing and will have you hitting the repeat button.Highlights include: "Since My Baby...", "With My Old Black Cadillac", " You Were Too Young To Die" and "Bitter Taste".

         
   The No Hit Makers are a band you should definitely check out.They nail it with "For Evermore".It's one of the years best and easily cuts the mustard.Highly recommended !!!

The Raggy Ass Boys - Ugly Betty 2019

  If your looking for some kool and sweet rockabilly, The Raggy Ass Boys  have just what you need.Since forming in 2018  these cats have ,you could say have been severely overlooked.Kinda unfair since the membership  have been kicking around the British rockin' scene since the 80's .Bottom line is that  this is one rockin' outfit that delivers.Just one listen to their debut album "Ugly Betty" and you'll be hooked.This is a damn kool shot of serious rockabilly that clocks in with 12 original and 2 covers. It's pretty much straight up rockabilly/neo rockabilly with some blues added into the affair. They even throw in some harp action to mix it up.As a result this is a well balanced and stout debut.Highlights include: "Call On You", Ugly Betty", "Trailer Trash" and "Pyromaniac".

 
    The Raggy Ass Boys have been described as "kickass rockabilly"and some may disagree with that .But they are damn good rockabilly that has a whack of swagger and back it up. "Ugly Betty" is a mighty fine debut by a band that you should keep an eye on. Highly recommended.

BAT! - Bat Music For Bat People 2019

Right from their start,back in the spring of 2018,BAT! have been big news.It's not everyday a so called  superband forms.In this case the band's line up is damn stacked: Rene De La Muerte Garcia (The Brains,Nekromantix),Dusty Graves(Stellar Corpses) and Daniel De Leon(Rezurex).Hell even if you know just a little bit about psychobilly, this is pretty impressive.As a result there has been a whack of interest and some major hype about the band's debut album, "Bat Music For Bat People". This puppy blows the doors off all the hype and will color you impressed.It punches in hard with 15 originals and 5 covers and it's not all psychobilly.This is one mean and fun slab that throws in straight up rock n roll,punk, surf  to rockabilly and garage.If that wasn't enough for you, they also add a little 50's inspired rock n roll and even a dash of poppiness.In other words there is something for everyone here and it works.Highlights include: "We Fight", "Devil Woman From Outer Space", "Getaway Car","Graveyard Girl", "Monster Party" and "Villain".

     
   These cats could have played it save but they didn't.Instead they released a surprisingly fun and killer album that's one of the years best.  Bat Music For Bat People is a refreshing blast that you gotta grab.Highly recommended!!!

Hellcats - Dance To The Devil's Beat 2019

 
    Earlier this year I hear through the grapevine about this killer new rockabilly  that I really should check out .To be honest most of the time I'm left disappointed. In this case the band is the Hellcats and man what a kool surprise ,these cats rock .Hell they also have some pedigree and were signed  up  by Foot Tapping Records based on been a killer live band.That said the band's debut album " Dance To The Devil's Beat" is one sweet kinetix rockabilly slab.This puppy growls and struts in with 14 original tracks that will lite a fire under your ass. It's all rockabilly /neo rockabilly packed with a  rock n roll vibe.With no weak tracks to be found,this is one pretty stout debut.Highlights include: "Tow That Line", "Bad Habit", "Rockin' All Nite" and"Ain't Gonna Worry"

 
       The Hellcats bring it on with " Dance To The Devil's Beat" and it's one of the better debut albums to come down the pike in a while.This is definitely a band you need  to check out and trust me you'll be glad you did Highly recommended!!

The Ripkatz - From The Outside 2019

 

  You gotta give it to The Ripkatz (formerly The Galactic Polecats), somehow they have managed to create a kool signature sound despite the fact that they are all over the map, genre wise.From straight up modern rockabilly to punk, outlaw country to Americana and straight up rock n roll. One thing for sure is that they are a damn good band and are not afraid to really mix it up . The band's sophomore album  "From The Outside" bears that out. Clocking in with 13 tracks that are diverse, refreshing and flat out  impressive.Hell this puppy roars in  with some surfbilly action and then proceeds to run the genre gamut. As a result this is a sweet  ride that keeps you on toes and guarantees some hip shakin' action.There isn't a week track to be found.Highlights include: "Whiskey Queen", "Taste Like Chicken", "Underneath", and "Sugar Shake"

   
  The Ripkatz have throwin' down a tour de force with "From The Outside".This is one rock n roll album that takes off in different directions and is still  freakin' sweet. That's hard to beat,so you should  throw some hard earned  money down on this one.Highly recommended!!

Delta 88 - Firefly 2019

People really like Delta 88 and for good reason; this is a stout outfit that keeps it simple and fun. Hell they play very catchy rockabilly (with a shot of neo rockabilly) that's highly contagious. One just has to check out their ep,"Rockabilly Tales" and debut album "Rocket Powered" to back up what I'm saying.Now they have released "Firefly" and they're is no sophomore jinx here.This puppy comes in boppin' and crackling in with 14 originals that guarantee a good time.It's full of rockabilly with a healthy shot of neo rockabilly. We get both male and female lead vocals,a little bit of their kool quirkiness and and at times a sense of innocents.So in other words, they stay the course here and step it up a bit. Highlights include: "She Does Me Good", "Cherry Pie Till I Die", "Damsel In Distress", the hard rockin' "Panther In The Night" and "Return Of The Girl With A Ray Gun".

   
    From start to finnish  "Firefly" is not only damn sweet it's also well balanced and produced (Alan Wilson of Western Star Records) .  If your looking for something that's refreshing and a whack of fun this rockabilly platter is just what you need and want. Highly recommended!!

Manny Jr and The Cyclones - Hot Bop! 2018

For over 10 years now Quebec's Manny Jr and The Cyclones  have been  serving up a sweet mix of rockabilly,rock n roll  and  surf . They are flat out a class act  and one of Canada's best bands too boot.The band's last offering back in 2014; "Rockabilly Girl" (El Toro Records) nailed it and established  them as a top shelf  outfit. With their new offering " Hot Bop! " they are back after 4 years  and in fine form.This puppy strolls in with a whack of confidence and backs it up.We get 14 tracks that run the gamut from rockabilly ,50's rock, surf, a little western swing and honky tonk to straight up rock n roll .Hell they even throw in some banjo into the mix ,just to keep you on your toes.It's also a brisk and refreshing ride.Highlights include : " Cavalier Seul", "Hop Bop", " You're So True", Oh Baby Yeah" and "Dirty Rat".

         
       Manny Jr and The Cyclones  are aiming to please and succeed with 'Hot Bop!". This is a rockabilly band  that isn't afraid to spread their wings and as a result this is their best outing yet.Highly recommended!

Octopus King - Kraken Escape 2018

      It's all about 100 percent Kraken Roll  and it's proprietors ,the Octopus King are bringing it on ,big time.Just recently  I caught wind of these cats that hail from the west of France and I\m glad I did and so should you.What they really throw down is a catchy mix of rockabilly,psychobilly and rock n roll.Their debut album " Kraken Escape" clocks in with 10 tracks of psychobilly/rockabilly that are not only kinetic but a blast of fun .They throw also in a couple of slower mid tempo tracks that will have you boppin'.As result this is a well balanced ride that has a great groove It's also never heavy handed and you gotta like that .Highlights include: "Dr. Jekyll", "Namor" , " Beer At Will" and " Keep On".

     
With "Kraken Escape";  Octopus King  have established themselves as a band to watch.This  is a more than solid debut that has not only alot  going on but also delivers the goods and leaves you wanting more.Recommended

Screamin' Rebel Angels - Heel Grinder 2019

   Hard to believe it's been almost 6 years (2013) since the Screamin' Rebel Angels  released their killer debut album: "Hitch Hike".Since then they have been barnstormin' all over North America and Europe.They also have earned a rep as a flat out kool and likeable band that you have to check out.It's no secret that this is one top shelf outfit that knows how to rock out.For fans the wait for new material has been a long time coming and expectations have really  been high.Now the band has just dropped their sophomore follow up; "Heel Grinder" and this puppy truly delivers the goods.They ratchet it up big time and hit hard with a wild slab of rock n roll that will set a fire under your ass.We get 10 originals and 3 covers that for the most part hit the gas  and only slow down so you catch  your breath.There is a shot of rockabilly, a little blues and a little ragged soul here but it's pretty much all about rock n roll and that's what makes this damn kool.Hell, this is freakin' damn stout with no weak tracks to be found.Highlights include: "OH!My Soul", "Sweet Petunia", "Racing Death", "Iris" and "Heel Grinder"

   

    Make no bones here , "Heel Grinder" will color you impressed and it's one of the best  rock n roll albums to come down the pike in a long time.Just for that reason alone it's worth you throwing your hard earned cash down on.Highly recommended!!!

Looney Boppers - Jungle Party 2018

Unless you follow the Russian billy/rock n roll scene , you probably aren't aware of how many really good bands there are coming out of Russia. Hell I'm talking top shelf outfits ,one of those bands is the Looney Boppers and man these kats not only rock but they are also a whack of fun.Hailing from St. Petersburg and Leningrad, they are loaded with pedigree and have a rep for been a wild rock n roll act that takes no prisoners.The band's debut album "Jungle Party" is nothing short of a blast of kool rock n roll.Slamming in gear with 12 originals that mash up rockabilly,psychobilly trash, calypso,exotica and even a little shot of country .It covers a lot of ground,pushes the genre lines and always keeps the foot on the pedal.This is a band that's on a mission and as a result this is one stout and fun ride.Hell there isn't a weak track to be found but here are a few highlights: "Oriental Rock", " What About Your Love ", "Country Soda", "I'm Lazy"and "Hot Days"

 
    From start to finish  "Jungle Party" delivers the goods.It's a  pretty stellar debut album by a band that doesn't take it self too seriously.Let's just say it's flat out kool and one that you'll hit the repeat button for.You definitely want to check it out! Highly recommended!!

Voodoo Zombie - Reviresco 2018

  

 It's been almost 6 years now since Voodoo Zombie's last release,the single "Zombiewalk"(2012).While they are back and in a big way with their third album, "Reviresco". This time out they are on the new upstart label Batcave Records.Whats not new is that they worked again with Rene De La Muerte (The Brains). So you just know that  "Reviresco" is one damn rockin' affair .Pulling no punches we get an intro,a radio spot and 10 original tracks of stout and catchy psychobilly.Two of the tracks have previously been released , "Armor Psycho" and "Zombiewalk" are reworked here .This is psychobilly that at times has a hard rock edge but the band mixes it up.From an acoustic driven number to all out psycho rockers.Highlights include: "La Llamada De Cthulu", "Un Mejor Cadillac", "Amarte Es Peligroso" and "El Mesias"

   

  

 Voodoo Zombie have scored a winner with "Reviresco" It's well produced  and has a great vibe.It's easily their best effort yet and shows that they have a lot more to offer up. It's a powerful and fun ride that you want to get in on. Highly recommended!!

The Reverb Syndicate - The Last Of The V8 Interceptors 2018

Over the years The Reverb Syndicate has laid down a whack of top shelf surf rock.Hell with 4 killer albums under their belts they are one of Canada's best surf bands.Their brand of surf  is  catchy and impressive.From traditional to, spy and spaghetti to sci fi  surf they have mixed it up and  stayed surprisingly fresh.Now there back as a 3 piece and have dropped their 5th album; "The Last Of The V8 Interceptors" .This time out we get 11 originals of surf drenched in reverb and twang.In the past the band's albums all have had themes and this time out I'm guessing it's about fast cars. It also has some of the band's hardest tracks to date.For the most part it's also straight up surfrock and damn good.Highlights include: "Motorik", "Sigue Sigue Stingray", "Clubfoot The Avenger" and the Mad Max  inspired "The Last Of The V8 Interceptors"
  The Reverb Syndicate  seem to get better with every release and " The Last Of The V8 Interceptors" is arguably their best yet and that's saying something. Once again  they deliver the goods but if you know anything about these guys ,you expect that.This is one damn sweet and satisfying surf album.Highly recommended!

Thee Creepfreaks - Tales From Thee Creepfreaks 2018

 You got to give Thee Creepfreaks credit, these psycho cats are persistent, despite some bad timing and membership changes. They released a stout,wild and rough 7 song demo back in 2015. But just as it starting getting some traction,bang life got in the way and not for the first time.The band had some more struggles but when the dust settled,they hit their stride and signed up with Greystone Records. Earlier this year(2018) they released the strong and rockin' debut album "Tales From Thee Creepfreaks". This puppy packs a pretty good punch and clocks in with 12 original tracks of psychobilly,punkabilly and a little surf. Six of the tracks here appeared on the demo but are redone.Working with producer and Greystone Records headman:Scott Milsom has Thee Creepfreaks sounding better than ever.This is one of those albums that has a really clean and kool flow .It also has a great vibe that hooks you in. Highlights include: "Amber Gambler", "Abandon All Hope", "Straight Jacket", "Go West" and the neat single "El Dorado".
     

     
     Thee Creepfreaks have hit pay dirt here with "Tales From Thee Creepfreaks". It's a damn strong debut album and  one rockin' psycho affair too boot.You should throw down a few of your hard earned bucks on this one .You'll be glad you did. Recommended!

The Black Moon Boys - Nuthouse 2018

  Every year there are a few releases that one gets excited about and one of those releases for me is The Black Moon Boys debut album. Like many folks ,these Montreal rockabilly cats hooked me in when they dropped their stellar  self-titled ep back in early 2016.That ep caught a lot of people off guard, got a whack of airplay,not only in Canada but also internationally  and still gets a fair share of airplay today.Their debut album; "Nuthouse" is now here and this puppy doesn't disappoint.Hell this is one blast of fun, refreshing hip shaking rockabilly.We get 10 original tracks and 1 cover.Two of the tracks are from their ep. From straight up rockabilly to all out rockers,a slow burner and a little 50's inspired rock n rock ,this is one sweet ride.Highlights include: "Sharkbait", "Time To Go", "Truth Or Dare" and "Nuthouse".

       
     Not only does "Nuthouse" live up to expectations, it surpasses them.It will color you impressed and leaves you wanting more.You know it's damn stout  when even the christmas song is freakin' kool.One of the years best by a band you should know. Highly recommended!!
