The Brains - Satana Tarantula 2020

Back in 2015 The Brains released the kool "Out In The Dark".Since then a lot has happened with frontman Rene D La Muerte forming Batcave Records and the band Bat! as well as a few other projects. Then bassman Collin the Dead joined up with The Hypnohonics. For many fans of The Brains it looked like the band was dead in the water. Well have no fear, they're back with  the release of their 8th album " Satana Tarantula" and they aren't pulling any punches. This is a kinetic strike with 11 originals and 1 cover (Electric Avenue) of psychobilly mayhem .Hell they even throw in some horn and piano action for your pleasure.Arguably it's their most diverse release ranging from a 50's inspired rocker to all out psychobilly. There is also guest appearances from Danny B Harvey, Patrica Day (The Horrorpops) and a few others.Highlights include: "C'Mon Lets Do It All Night"  "Fire", "Hellhounds", 'Swing It" and "Satana Tarantula".

With  "Satana Tarantula" ,The Brains show no signs of slowing down.It hits hard and fast. They mix it up a bit and deliver the goods. This is another killer release by a band that is still on top of their game.Highly recommended!!!

The Black Moon Boys - Nuthouse 2018

Every year there are a few releases that one gets excited about and one of those releases for me is The Black Moon Boys debut album. Like many folks ,these Montreal rockabilly cats hooked me in when they dropped their stellar  self-titled ep back in early 2016.That ep caught a lot of people off guard, got a whack of airplay, not only in Canada but also internationally  and still gets a fair share of airplay today.Their debut album; "Nuthouse" is now here and this puppy doesn't disappoint.Hell this is one blast of fun, refreshing hip shaking rockabilly. We get 10 original tracks and 1 cover. Two of the tracks are from their ep. From straight up rockabilly to all out rockers,a slow burner and a little 50's inspired rock n rock ,this is one sweet ride.Highlights include: "Sharkbait", "Time To Go", "Truth Or Dare" and "Nuthouse".

Not only does "Nuthouse" live up to expectations, it surpasses them.It will color you impressed and leaves you wanting more. You know it's damn stout  when even the christmas song is freakin' kool. One of the years best by a band you should know. Highly recommended!!

Gutter Demons - No God, No Ghost, No Saints 2018

They're is no doubt that The Gutter Demons are a top shelf outfit.Hell they have managed to carve out their own niche in the psychobilly world and are one of Canada's best bands, period. With a stout rap sheet of 4 studio albums and one live ,this is a band that's open for business and killing it.Now the band is offering up their latest release," No God, No Ghost, No Saints " and it's another sonic winner. This puppy is pretty much an all out attack that will colour you impressed. We get 10 tracks of hellbound psychobilly and one ballad .As a bonus there is also a hidden track at the end of the album. It's pretty much what one would expect ,however there is at times a more rock n roll feel here. That may be because the band worked with Frank Seguin (Matchless) .As a result this is of the band's better albums and that's saying something.Highlight include: Damage Case", "Ravenous", "D.O.A." ,"Roadkills" and "Cold Call"
The Gutter Demons nail it here with " No God, No Ghost, No Saints "   but then again that should surprise no one. Some will argue that it's  their best yet and it's definitely one of the years best albums. You need to get this puppy and crank it so the neighbours will think your the koolest cat on the block.Highly recommended!!!

Alex Brown and The Hepcats - Reckless Ways 2018

With the quiet demise of The Hellbound Hepcats, lead man Alex Brown wasted no time in forming the new band ; Alex Brown and The Hepcats. To no surprise, this outfit is damn good and it would be easy to confuse the two bands.Make no mistake, they may sound  very similar but they are two different entities. That said  Alex Brown and The Hepcats have dropped their new debut album "Reckless Ways " and this puppy is a straight up winner. We get 10 original tracks that range from all out rockers and boppers to mid tempo burners. This is a kool mix stew of neo rockabilly, 50's inspired rock n roll and country twang.Throw in a little swing and r&b and the result is one swingin' affair that will have up and rockin'.Highlights include: " Reckless Ways ", " Take Me Back", " One More" and "Twist Like Licorice".

Alex Brown and The Hepcats are making a statement  with "Reckless Ways". It's a fun refreshing outing that has a sense of urgency and pays off big .Highly recommended !!

Matchless - Pills & Blades 2016

When Matchless formed back in 2007 the buzz was that these kats would fill the void of The Gutter Demons. There was unfairly high expectations leveled on the band to say the least. In 2009 the band released the solid and good  ep "Don't Leave Your Day Job" and it left many wondering about them(again unfair). The ep was more rockabilly/rock n roll and not psychobilly. Then in 2010 they released the excellent debut album "Randomly Generated Numbers", a kool mix bag of rock n rock. From straight up rock n roll to roots to billy and punk, all done with a raw edge. Now in 2016 there back with the  sophomore album "Pills & Blades" and this puppy is nothing short of a knock out punch. This is 15 tracks of snarly killer hard rock/psychobilly that's all done with a punk sneer.Hell this is one damn smokin' album that kicks in hard and doesn't let up.No week track here and as a result this is one really consistent effort that truly delivers.Standouts include: " King’s Ransom", "Afterbite", " Pills & Blades","One in a Billion" and "Tunica Molesta"
Matchless have diffidently stepped up their game on "Pills & Blades"and are a band that just keeps getting better  each time out.In short this is one tough, confident  and one stellar album that you should grab up.Highly recommended!!!!

The Lab Ratz - Terror Is Loose 2016

The Lab Ratz  exploded onto the Montreal scene back in 2014 and haven't looked back since.Sure they have a serious whack of  pedigree but this an outfit that doesn't rest on it's laurels.Hell they are known for been one really intense and raw live act.In some corners of the Canadian psychobilly scene the band's debut album has been just as hotly anticipated as some of the other big name releases that happen late last year.So now in early 2016 the band has dropped their debut album " Terror Is Loose". There is no doubt this puppy rocks hard and nails it.We get 13 original  tracks of pure killer psychobilly  that really do impress. This is psychobilly that will  appeal to both the old school and modern camps.Highlights include: "Uptown Mouse", "Duct Tape Boogie", "Channel Real TV", " Revenge" and "Wild Cavemen".
With "Terror Is Loose" The Lab Ratz  have more than  lived up to all the buzz about them.It really is no surprise that this is a killer album  and that should tell you something. Highly recommended!!

The Brains - Out In The Dark 2015

Over the  past few years Canuck psycho's The Brains  have emerged as one of the top psychobilly bands out there. This is one serious contender that has managed to release a string of 6 impressive albums that is hard to match.Hell the big questions about every Brains release is just how good it really is and how do   these kats  keep getting better.Their 7th and latest album "Out In The Dark" is now out and this little monster is nothing short of a real barn burner. We get 11 tracks of kinetic psychobilly with a wack of punk infusion.Yeah it's more of the same but  that's what they do and just like in the past they nail it.Highlights include: "Wolfman", "Lifetime", "The Witch" and "Killer".
So just how good is "Out In The Dark",well it may not be as intense as say "Zombie Nation" but it is arguably  their best all round album yet and that's not an easy feat. This is a must have album by a band that not only delivers the goods but  are still hungry and again seem to get better with every release.Highly recommended!!

The Hellbound Hepcats - Turn Me Inside Out 2015

With  a whack of talent and a ton of  hard work The Hellbound Hepcats have over the years emerged as one of Canada's better bands.Sure they are a rockabilly band but to many people they are just a killer rock n roll band and that's not a bad thing. The band's self- titled debut  and their sophomore album, No. 2  are pretty damn good  and well worth checking out. That said, these kats have been constantly touring and as a result it's been over 3 years since their last release(2012). Well the wait is over and the band's third album, "Turn Me Inside Out"  has now dropped and this is a surprising disc. This puppy comes punching in hard and at times dirty with 13 originals tracks. Talk about changing things up ,not only do we get the rockabilly but we also get, dare I say  classic/ hard rock  a little grunge and more. You could say this is a kool bag of goodies. Highlights include: "All Night Long", "Sweet Amber Jean", "Something Different" and "Black Cats"
The Hellbound Hepcats  have step it up  delivered more than what would be excepted with "Turn Me Inside Out". This is a surprising and refreshing album that pushes outside of the genre box and is pretty good to boot.  Recommended   https://www.facebook.com/hellboundhepcats/timeline
