BAT! - Bat Music For Bat People 2019

Right from their start, back in the spring of 2018,BAT! have been big news. It's not everyday a so called  superband forms. In this case the band's line up is damn stacked: Rene De La Muerte Garcia (The Brains,Nekromantix),Dusty Graves(Stellar Corpses) and Daniel De Leon(Rezurex).Hell even if you know just a little bit about psychobilly, this is pretty impressive. As a result there has been a whack of interest and some major hype about the band's debut album, "Bat Music For Bat People". This puppy blows the doors off all the hype and will color you impressed. It punches in hard with 15 originals and 5 covers and it's not all psychobilly. This is one mean and fun slab that throws in straight up rock n roll, punk, surf  to rockabilly and garage. If that wasn't enough for you, they also add a little 50's inspired rock n roll and even a dash of poppiness. In other words there is something for everyone here and it works.Highlights include: "We Fight", "Devil Woman From Outer Space", "Getaway Car","Graveyard Girl", "Monster Party" and "Villain".

These cats could have played it save but they didn't.Instead they released a surprisingly fun and killer album that's one of the years best.  Bat Music For Bat People is a refreshing blast that you gotta grab.Highly recommended!!!

Mark Malibu & The Wasagas - Crash Monster Beach 2018

Since returning from the grave back in 2014, Mark Malibu & The Wasagas have been making a lot of  noise and creating some major wave action. They have delivered some top notch surf rock with 2 very fine  albums: "Original Surf Punk Recordings" (2014) and "Return Of The Wasagas" (2017).If that wasn't enough ,they also gained a rep as a damn kool live band. Not standing still they have released their 3rd and best album so far,"Crash Monster Beach".This time out they don't pull any punches and land an intro and 12 hits. This is damn confident instrumental surf that ranges from traditional surf to garage and surf punk. Hell it's also modern surf that is vigorous and straight up kool.We get 3 covers here and the band also throws in "Hey Chiwawa" which appeared on "Original Surf Punk Recordings". It's well produced and executed but then again that's kind of a trademark for them. From start to finish this puppy reels you in and doesn't let go.Highlights include: "Punch Out At The Beach", "Crazy Mouse", "Astro Bot" and "Fuzzy Love".

Washington Dead Cats - Attack Of The Giant Purple Lobsters

No one can even accuse the Washington Dead Cats  of been boring. They have been one of the most entertaining and exciting bands out there for years now.Their brand of punkabilly/ wild rock n roll may have one shaking their head but there is no denying it's a blast of fresh air and fun. Also they have never been afraid to change it up ,you just have to check out the band's rap sheet of 12 albums and a whack of singles to see that. With their new and 13th album, " Attack Of The Giant Purple Lobsters" the band makes a return to their early wild side and it's damn good. This puppy smashes in 15 tracks of action packed wild rock n roll/ punkabilly .Once again these cats bring on the horns and  don't stay in the box .They throw in  garage, surf ,country and even some beatnik into the mix. It's an exciting affair that is tied together by 3 tracks about the giant purple lobsters.Highlights include: "Give Me The Fire", "Tiger In My Pants", "I Can't Stop Loving You ", "Hellhound On My Trail"and " Attack Of The Giant Purple Lobsters"

The Washington Dead Cats have scored a  direct hit with " Attack Of The Giant Purple Lobsters". This is a flat out killer album by a band that knows how to deliver the goods and still has a lot of gas in the tank.Highly recommended!!

Since 2014 they have been serving up a wild dish that mixes rockabilly, garage ,punk, surf and psychobilly all with a serving of fun on the side. The band's latest and 3rd offering;  "Primitive" is proof of that.         There is no doubt that Crystal & Runnin’ Wild are a top shelf outfit. Despite laying down some damn kool rockabilly/ roots music, you just know that there is much more to these cats. Their bopping  cover of "Search and Destroy" bears that out.Well now they are upping the anti and shifting gears with their second album; "The Midnight Creature".This time out they are throwing down one impressive hand  that changes the game. Punching in with 13 tracks that range from frantic rockabilly to garage to straight up rock n roll and more. They also throw in a couple of slower numbers, just to keep you on your toes. It's a stout and  kinetic affair  that's impossible to resist.Highlights include: "Wish You Misery", "I Love My Monsters","Deadly Day", "Jezebel" and "  The Midnight Creature".

The Delta Bombers - Pressure and Time 2018

It's hard to believe The Delta Bombers have been around ten years now.In that time they have proven to be one of the hardest working outfits out there and  one of the best rock n roll bands too boot.At their heart, they are a blues band but the band's strength is their ability to lace the blues with everything from rockabilly, garage, country to straight up rock and more. So far they have 3 outstanding albums plus a live one under their belts and now you can add " Pressure and Time"to the list. Coming in with 9 originals and 3 covers that again run the gamut. This time out they really  up the country, throw in  a surprising cover of "Sympathy For The Devil" and still manage to serve up a whack of revved up dirty and kool rockabilly/ rock n roll. Hell this is one diverse and impressive effort. Then again if your familiar with the band ,you just know it's got to be top shelf. Highlights include : "Jump Back Baby", "Let Her Go", " Pressure and Time", "Hi- Strung Ramble" and "Good Disguise"

Once again The Delta Bombers  deliver the goods with " Pressure and Time". They are in top form here and can still surprise. This is one kool album that will color you impressed. Highly Recommended!!

The Stinky Rodders - Raw & Wild 2017

Recently I caught wind of the Hungarian band The Stinky Rodders and with a name like that you gotta check them out. While color me impressed, these cats brew up some catchy "garage rockabilly" that will light a fire under a dead man's ass.Their 2016 ep " From The Garage" is a stout mix of equal parts  wild rockabilly and garage. The follow up is even better  and it's their debut album; "Raw & Wild. This puppy punches the clock with 12 kick ass tracks that are less on the rockabilly and more garage, that at times  mashes up into punkabilly. It also times in at around 30 minutes, so you know these cats get right to the point. We get  songs about bad gals, drinking and getting it on. It's also fast, furious, dirty and a whole whack of fun.Highlights include: "Route 69", "Bad Girl", "Midnight Boogie" and "Dead Body's Movin' "

With "Raw &Wild", The Stinky Rodders have dropped a rocket sled of fun and you'll be hitting the repeat button. You may want to keep an eye on these guys. Highly recommended!!

The Terrorsaurs - Swamp Beat 2017

There are a lot of bands that claim to be primitive and raw rock n roll but few really are.The Terrorsaurs are that and more.Even since they crawled out of the primordial swamp back in 2009, these swamp rats have cough up 3 albums of savage and dangerous instrumental rock n roll.Just to amp things up they also throw in some garage and surf. The band's latest and 4th offering is the powerful "Swamp Beat" and this puppy really grabs the bull by the horns .We get 12 tracks of instrumental rock n roll  that hit damn hard and fast. Hell this is short ,sweet and to the point. It clocks in at  under 25 minutes, so you know they ain't  dickin' around here.At times it's menacing and trashy but it's all freaking kool. No bells and whistles here as this is  straight up and stripped down rock n roll that kills it.It's also their hardest and best album to date. Highlights include: "Gatnapped, "Freight Train", "Swamp Beat", "Boss Crawler" and "Snake Belly".

With  "Swamp Beat" The Terrorsaurs have scored a direct hit .Lay this on the kool kid in your neighborhood, they will either hate you or think your the kool one. Highly recommended!!

Fifty Foot Combo - S/T 2016

Fifty Foot Combo, the kings of "Monstrophonic" sound are back and ready to kick ass in a big way. If you don't know who Fifty Foot Combo  are you should. Back in 2006 and after 6 albums these kats packed it in. Their brand of wild garage, surf and trashy rock n roll had made them one of the best bands out there. They were popular ,had a killer rep, were in your face and they always delivered the goods.Back in 2012 the band got back to together and started playing gigs .In 2014 they really started to get out and have released a couple of singles (2014, 2016) with guest vocalist. Now in 2016 they're back with a self titled album, their first  since 2004. So the big question is it any good. While hell yeah, it's damn good and these kats aren't holding back.We get 13 tracks of kool, at times raw and intense garage/surf  rock n roll.In other words just what you would expect. From wall of sound to spaghetti infused to garage to surf and  a little psychedelic the band covers a lot of ground and does it well.Hell we even get 2 versions of "Wild Man"  Highlights include : "Accident Or Incident", "Decompression", "The Maker" and "The Descent"

Fifty Foot Combo are on a mission here and this is right up there with their best works. Not a easy feat. This is loud, proud and just killer rock n roll.Highly Recommended!!!

The Hillmans - Kings Of The Weald Frontier 2015

Alot of people know of The Hillmans but most probably haven't  heard them and that's a shame.Since thier start in  2010 these kats have released 3 killer eps yet remain a bit of a mystery too many out there(especially in North America). Their brand of "ragged  rockabilly",psychobilly and  Cramp's fueled garage  is nothing short of a delicious brew that's hard to resist. So it was only a matter of time before someone came along and signed them.Well no  real surprise here; Western Star stepped up  and now the long awaited debut album is now out . The result is "Kings Of The Weald Frontier" and this puppy is a tour de force that barks as hard as it bites. We get 14 tracks of which half  are new and the other half have appeared  on their previous eps.The mix of old and new is a great move here  and highlights just how consistent The Hillmans are.The mix of old school psychobilly, rockabilly, garagepunk and hillbilly comes off vital, fresh and has a sense of urgency about it .Highlights include: " Backwoods Boy", " Baby Loves To Fight" , " Whoa Blue Baby" and " Dog Man"
The Hillmans have always been a  very strong band and that continues on "Kings Of The Weald Frontier". Do yourself a favor and pick  it up, it's pretty impressive and  as they say  it cuts the mustard . Highy recommended!!   http://www.thehillmans.net/  https://www.facebook.com/TheHillmans/timeline

The Tiki Creeps - Invaders from Beyond the Sound of Surf 2014

Since 2012 Los  Angeles based The Tiki Creeps  have been laying down some killer surf music, they like to describe their  brand of surf as "Monstrously Soothing Instrumental Hot Rod Garage Surf Sounds". Well that's really not far off  mark. The band's debut album "Invaders from Beyond the Sound of Surf " is a blast of 7 tracks of surf and these guys aren't afraid to flex some muscle. We get a wide range of surf from traditional to garage to near smash mouth .Throw in some sci-phi, and hot rod sounds   with a surf punk attitude and the results are an explosive cocktail.Highlights include: "The Crawling Terror!","Sea Foam","Green Slime Are Coming" and "Buzz Bomb".

With only 7 tracks  "Invaders from Beyond the Sound of Surf" clocks in around 22 minutes  and leaves you wanting more. That said this is a  fun ride and damn good  too boot. Hill Valley Lightning - Hill Valley Lightning 2014

Hill Valley Lightning hail from the waste lands of Southern Ontario and are not your typical run of the mill rock band.Formally known as Back Seat Bingo this started out as a one man show in 2009. Jake Young had a  few songs that he wrote laying around and decided to cut a 5 song demo.Funny thing happened that demo landed into the laps of a couple of Dj's .It started to get some airplay and some positive feedback. As a result in early 2010 Jake put the band together and right away they started turning heads with their brand of refreshing of rock n roll.Even more impressive was that when the band played live they only would do one cover and the rest was all original material. In late 2012 the band changed the name to Hill Valley Lightning.
All that said for some this self-titled debut album has been a long time coming.Clocking in with 10 pretty fine tracks this is one kool rock n roll  album that you gotta like .We get all 5 from the demo(freshly redone) and 4 new tracks plus one cover. Combining elements of straight up rock, garage, rockabilly to 50's rock and surf pop.Highlights include:"Crazy"," Back Seat Bingo","Long Way" and the impressive single "Hard Moon".
There is a lot to like here from the song writing  to the execution. Hell  this is a rock n roll album that is just plain damn good  and that's getting harder to find now a days so you may want to check it out! https://www.facebook.com/hillvalleylightning    http://hillvalleylightning.bandcamp.com/
