When it comes to the band Hard Six you really never what your going to get. After all this isn't your run of the mill punkabilly band. These kats probably really don't care about genre lines and that makes them a better band.Too some they are a kick ass rockabilly band too others, punkabilly or rock n roll and even a country band.Take your pick they do it all. With 2 pretty good albums under their belts they have managed to crave out a solid and growing fan base. The outfits latest release "Haunted Ride " is damn solid and diverse, with each track sounding different .This puppy slides in with 10 tracks that infuse country, rockabilly ,punkabilly and rock n roll. The result is one kool and silky ride and as a result there is a really neat vibe going on here.Highlights include: "Rockabilly Rumble", "Heartbreaker", "Wip Wop" and "Haunted Ride".
Over the years guitar slinger Neal X has done some pretty impressive work with a wide range of artist but he's mainly remember for his band Sigue Sigue Sputnik. You could say that was a band you either really liked or had no use for, either way Neal X's newest project is The Montecristos and they will diffidently be a pleasant surprise for most.Since late 2012 the outfit has managed to not only creating a buzz but also a rep as a damn good band.Hell the bass slapper is Emma Goss(The Daytonas,Something Shocking, The Griswald and more) so you just know this is a stout outfit. The band's debut album, "Born To Rock N Roll" is one album you should check out.Clocking in with 14 tracks of real rock n roll that's fun, sexy and infectious. This is 50's inspired rock n roll that's driven by a horn section with rockabilly, glam and surf all thrown into the mix.We get a kool mix of covers and originals as well as 3 Sigue Sigue Sputnik songs that totally come off as vital and fresh.Highlights include: " Badfinger Twang", "Dirty Little Lowlife", " Born To Rock N Roll" and " Love Missile F1-11"
The Montecristos are a band that has benefited greatly from word of mouth and rightfully so."Born To Rock 'n' Roll" is a direct result of a hugely successful Kick starter campaign .This is a strong and surprisingly very good album by a band that's looking to kick some rock 'n' roll butt. Alot of people know of The Hillmans but most probably haven't heard them and that's a shame.Since thier start in 2010 these kats have released 3 killer eps yet remain a bit of a mystery too many out there(especially in North America). Their brand of "ragged rockabilly",psychobilly and Cramp's fueled garage is nothing short of a delicious brew that's hard to resist. So it was only a matter of time before someone came along and signed them.Well no real surprise here; Western Star stepped up and now the long awaited debut album is now out . The result is "Kings Of The Weald Frontier" and this puppy is a tour de force that barks as hard as it bites. We get 14 tracks of which half are new and the other half have appeared on their previous eps.The mix of old and new is a great move here and highlights just how consistent The Hillmans are.The mix of old school psychobilly, rockabilly, garagepunk and hillbilly comes off vital, fresh and has a sense of urgency about it .Highlights include: " Backwoods Boy", " Baby Loves To Fight" , " Whoa Blue Baby" and " Dog Man"
Back in 2011 a group of young upstarts known as The Desperados made a big splash with the released of their debut album,"On the Rampage". Here was a young and exciting band that managed to deliver a kool and killer album that really did have a whack of people talking about it.Being on Wild Records didn't hurt, but their rock n roll/rockabilly had a freshness and hard edge that you couldn't help but notice.Well after 4 years the long awaited sophomore album, "Won't Be Broken" is finally out and The Desperados definitely deliver the goods. This time out we get 14 originals of stout and dangerous rock n roll/rockabilly that still comes off damn fresh .Highlights include: " Gave Her My Heart (Now I Want It Back)"," She's My Lover","Two Woman",and "Caught You In A Lie"
You gotta give it to The Desperados, they set the bar high with "On the Rampage" and have surpassed it with "Won't Be Broken". These kats are very much alive and kicking A diffident must have album.Highly recommended!! https://www.facebook.com/ocdesperados?fref=ts
