The Chukukos - Deep Latin Surf Attack 2017

For a surf band that's been around for only a couple of years, The Chukukos are pretty ballsy .These young upstarts from Chile play a brand of loud and proud surf that's hard to resist. They also it seems, don't like wasting time. They quickly earned a solid rep, then moved the show to Germany.Oh and they dropped a couple of kool and stout singles along the way.Now their debut album, "Deep Latin Surf Attack" has dropped and boy it's a doozy. This puppy crashes ashore with 8 killer tracks that hold nothing back. It's a mix of surfpunk and smash mouth,so you know it hits hard and fast.Hell it clocks in at around 21 minutes with  only one track hitting the 3 minute mark. Highlights include : "La Virgen de las Barricadas", "Surfeando en los 90's", " La Partida" and "LaVenganza de Ramon Ramon".

If anything, " Deep Latin Surf Attack" is a fun kinetic ride that leaves you wanting more. It's a very stout debut album by a band that you should watch out for.Get it while you can on bandcamp (pay what you can)  Recommended!!!

Arno De Cea & The Clockwork Wizards – Flash Freezing the Sun 2017

When it comes to smash mouth surf  few bands do it better than France's Arno De Cea & The Clockwork Wizards. These purveyors of "brutal surf " aren't afraid to push the boundaries and relish taking it into the red. As a result some have accused them as been a noise/metal infused band but don't let that deter you. These cats are totally refreshing and freakin' kool. Their first two albums,"Surfs Up" (2011) and "Bug Terminal" (2015) both deliver enough body blows to win the day. Now their back with "Flash Freezing the Sun",a sci-fi epic that delivers a knock out punch. This puppy explodes  with 13 tracks of dark and dangerous instrumental surf rock. For the most part this is fast and hard but there is a couple of  softer tracks that help to ease this frantic ride. There is even one track with vocals.Overall it's their best effort yet and that's saying something.Highlights include: "Volcano Juice","Fluide Glacial" ,"Flash Freezing the Sun", "Extropie Boogie" and" No Comply".

With " Flash Freezing the Sun" these cats put it all out there and have another winner on their hands. If you aren't familiar with Arno De Cea & The Clockwork Wizards , you should do yourself a favor and check them out. This could be the wake up call you have been waiting for.Highly recommended!

The Terrorsaurs - Swamp Beat 2017

There are a lot of bands that claim to be primitive and raw rock n roll but few really are.The Terrorsaurs are that and more.Even since they crawled out of the primordial swamp back in 2009, these swamp rats have cough up 3 albums of savage and dangerous instrumental rock n roll.Just to amp things up they also throw in some garage and surf. The band's latest and 4th offering is the powerful "Swamp Beat" and this puppy really grabs the bull by the horns .We get 12 tracks of instrumental rock n roll  that hit damn hard and fast. Hell this is short ,sweet and to the point. It clocks in at  under 25 minutes, so you know they ain't  dickin' around here.At times it's menacing and trashy but it's all freaking kool. No bells and whistles here as this is  straight up and stripped down rock n roll that kills it.It's also their hardest and best album to date. Highlights include: "Gatnapped, "Freight Train", "Swamp Beat", "Boss Crawler" and "Snake Belly".

With  "Swamp Beat" The Terrorsaurs have scored a direct hit .Lay this on the kool kid in your neighborhood, they will either hate you or think your the kool one. Highly recommended!!

The Tsunamibots - The Crushing 2016

From parts unknown(some say Vermont) come The Tsunamibots,  a robotic surf machine that's bound determined to crush the human race. Just saying but make no mistake this is a killer surf outfit that knows what smash mouth surf is.With 2 stout eps under their belts and a fair size following on the eastern side of North America  it has become time to step up their Robotic Revolution. That said the outfit's debut album has now dropped and it's a dewsy.Simply called " The Crushing" and believe me it lives up to it's name. This puppy smashes in with 11 tracks of robotic surf. From a little aggressive traditional to surf punk to smash mouth this hits hard and fast. They even throw in some lyrics on a couple of tracks just so you know this is a robotic uprising.Over all it's powerful, has a sense of urgency and is a whack of fun.High lights include: "Automaton", " Sold by Jawas", "Robotic Meltdown", " Theme Code" and " Short Term Internal Memory Failure".

Bottom line is that "The Crushing" may not be for everyone but if you like your surf rough, loud or even in your face this is diffidently for you .This puppy rocks and you gotta like that. Recommended!!

Fifty Foot Combo - S/T 2016

Fifty Foot Combo, the kings of "Monstrophonic" sound are back and ready to kick ass in a big way. If you don't know who Fifty Foot Combo  are you should. Back in 2006 and after 6 albums these kats packed it in. Their brand of wild garage, surf and trashy rock n roll had made them one of the best bands out there. They were popular ,had a killer rep, were in your face and they always delivered the goods.Back in 2012 the band got back to together and started playing gigs .In 2014 they really started to get out and have released a couple of singles (2014, 2016) with guest vocalist. Now in 2016 they're back with a self titled album, their first  since 2004. So the big question is it any good. While hell yeah, it's damn good and these kats aren't holding back.We get 13 tracks of kool, at times raw and intense garage/surf  rock n roll.In other words just what you would expect. From wall of sound to spaghetti infused to garage to surf and  a little psychedelic the band covers a lot of ground and does it well.Hell we even get 2 versions of "Wild Man"  Highlights include : "Accident Or Incident", "Decompression", "The Maker" and "The Descent"

Fifty Foot Combo are on a mission here and this is right up there with their best works. Not a easy feat. This is loud, proud and just killer rock n roll.Highly Recommended!!!

The Coffin Daggers - Aggravatin’ Rhythms 2016

The Coffin Daggers  may not have a big discography for a band that's been around since 1999.Hell they have released a couple of singles ,an ep and only 2 albums, the last been in 2011. However each release has  been pretty impressive. This is one surf punk outfit that knows how too do some serious damage and as a result there is a large, loyal and growing  fan base for these kats.In 2015 the band hitched up with Cleopatra Records and the results are now out  with their third album " Aggravatin’ Rhythms". This  mad puppy comes out swinging  hard, fast and most of all delivers on all accounts. We get 14 tracks (a mix of originals  and  covers) of instrumental surf punk that range from garagy  to smash mouth .This is a powerful brew that's stirred with hard driving guitar and a damn kool organ. Highlights include:  "Instigator", "Five-Five", " The Thing" , and " Wake Up Screaming".
There was some buzz surrounding the release of  "Aggravatin’ Rhythms' "and that was good to see. This is one very strong and intense album but it's a fun ride to boot .Yeah it kicks butt and that's what you would expect.  Highly Recommended!!!     https://www.facebook.com/coffindagger/timeline    http://coffindaggers.com/

The 427's - Mavericks 2015

Back in early 2014 Calgary's The 427's released "Surf Noir", a very strong ep and campus radio stations across Canada picked right up on it.Hell that 5 song ep  has charted across the country and is still  getting a ton of airplay a year later.Believe me that's no small feat especially for a surf band. The band also managed to gain some attention south of the border in America as well. Seizing on the so called moment the band has just released it's debut album "Mavericks" and this puppy nails it.We get 11 (1 hidden) original tracks of basically first wave inspired surf that are smooth ,slick and damn good.Throw in some spaghetti and spy and the result is one very impressive debut.Highlights include: "The Spy Invasion", "Yellowbelly", "Urchin Stomp" and "The Score"
The 427's are still a young outfit since they formed in 2013 and that makes " Mavericks" even more impressive. This is one mature, sexy and kool ride that leaves you feeling fresh.Recommended !!!

The Madeira - Ancient Winds 2015

If you don't know who The Madeira  are you should.Hell they are arguably one of the best bands in any genre on planet.Sure it's high praise but when you consider the fact that this a band that constantly raises the bar  and is respected by a whack of musicians, you just know their good. With every album they get better and  gain more attention.Too many this is the surf band that is going to "break out" and have mainstream success. The band's 5th album  "Ancient Winds" has been hotly anticipated and rightfully so. This puppy washes ashore with 12 originals  and 1 cover of instrumental surf  that deliver the goods. Again the band pushes the boundaries of the surf genre and  what one thinks surf should be .Dragging influences from traditional surf to world beat , " Ancient Winds"  picks up where  "Tribal Fires" left off  and the result is a truly stunning album.Highlights include:" Journey to the Center of the Surf", "Here Be Dragons", " Caravela" and "Hail, Poseidon!" .

This time out TheMadeira seem more driven, like a band on mission and as a result "Ancient Winds" is their best effort yet.Simply put ; this is top shelf  by one of the best bands out there and you gotta ask yourself ,just how good can these guys get. Highly recommended!!!   https://www.facebook.com/themadeira/timeline
