Mark Malibu & The Wasagas - Crash Monster Beach 2018

Since returning from the grave back in 2014, Mark Malibu & The Wasagas have been making a lot of  noise and creating some major wave action. They have delivered some top notch surf rock with 2 very fine  albums: "Original Surf Punk Recordings" (2014) and "Return Of The Wasagas" (2017).If that wasn't enough ,they also gained a rep as a damn kool live band. Not standing still they have released their 3rd and best album so far,"Crash Monster Beach".This time out they don't pull any punches and land an intro and 12 hits. This is damn confident instrumental surf that ranges from traditional surf to garage and surf punk. Hell it's also modern surf that is vigorous and straight up kool.We get 3 covers here and the band also throws in "Hey Chiwawa" which appeared on "Original Surf Punk Recordings". It's well produced and executed but then again that's kind of a trademark for them. From start to finish this puppy reels you in and doesn't let go.Highlights include: "Punch Out At The Beach", "Crazy Mouse", "Astro Bot" and "Fuzzy Love".

Mark Malibu & The Wasagas have hit a home run with "Crash Monster Beach".It sounds great and is freakin' stout .You really have to throw down some of your hard earned cash on this baby and your better half will thank you for it.Highly recommended!!

Greasemarks - S/T 2018

The Greasemarks are all about "nasty rockabilly".Since emerging from the wastelands of Southern Ontario back in 2007, they have survived numerous line up changes, gain a loyal following but more importantly: earned great word of mouth.Despite a small but strong discography they have landed spots on the biggest rockabilly festivals in North America .Back in 2017 ,that word of mouth helped them land  a well deserved deal with Wild Records . The result is the new  album, "Greasemarks" and to no surprise ,it's pretty damn stout. This puppy punches in with 12 tracks of "nasty rockabilly" that score a direct hit.We get 10 tracks written by the band and two previous unreleased  tracks  written by Big Rude Jake, "Knock'Em Down" and "You Come Undone" by Ronnie Hayward. They also rerecorded "Meatshakes" (a previous single). From a slow burner  to all out rockers there isn't a weak track to be found here. Hell it's easily their best effort yet. Highlights include:  "She's Wild", "Wolf Trash", the instrumental " Black Dice" "Jungle Savage Suzie".

The Greasemarks stay the course with this self titled album and are on top of their game here. It's a straight up winner and one you should grab.Highly recommended!!

The House Of Haunt - Habeas Corpses 2017

Over the last few years Toronto's psychos,House Of Haunt have earned a rep as a fun and very entertaining  live act. They also have upped their game with each release. This past year saw the band lose their keyboard player. Not standing still they went out and got themselves a guitar slinger. As a result, the band has a more beefier and rockin' attack. Their latest offering "Habeas Corpses"  backs that up.Clocking in with an opening statement followed by 8 tracks of psychobilly, then a closing sentencing (there is also 5 bonus live tracks too boot).Four of the tracks are older but have been rerecorded here and the other 4 are new . There is still some keyboard action but it no longer drives their sound. With the addition of the second guitar the band comes off tougher and better.  Overall it's a stout outing that has the band sounding better than ever. Highlights include:"Congo Cannibals", "Undead Man Walking", "The Hanged Man" and the kool  poppy inspired "Rum From The Black Lagoon".
The House of Haunt are in transition on " Habeas Corpse. It's well balanced with the new tracks  highlighting the album. These cats  are open for business and they just got a little meaner. Recommended!

Mark Malibu & The Wasagas - Return Of The Wasagas 2017

Back in 1979 Mark Malibu & The Wasagas  washed up onto the Toronto punk and immediately stood out from the pack. Been Canada's first surfpunk was no easy chore but they managed to record a handful tracks, some which appeared on a few compilations. After a 3 year run they packed it in and sadly were quickly forgotten. Funny thing thou,in the early 2000's  Toronto burgeoning surf was starting to gain traction and for a few people  Mark Malibu & The Wasagas became a touchstone band. It took a few more years but in 2014 they appeared at The Great Lakes Surf Battle #9 and released the kool "Original Surf Punk Recordings". As a result you could say the game was back on. Now in 2017 they have dropped the  kool and sweet album " Return Of The Wasagas". This puppy craves in with 12 originals and 2 covers of mighty fine surf. For the most part this is aggressive traditional surf but we also  get a range of surf here ,from traditional to spaghetti to surf punk and a little horror surf .From the opening intro to the final track this is one refreshing and fun ride that maintains a stout groove.Highlights include: "Surfin' A Go-Go" , " Boogie Board ", " Spaghetti Summer" and "Ain't Gunna Crash"
There is no doubt about it "Return Of The Wasagas" packs a punch. Mark Malibu & The Wasagas are making up for lost time here. This is a lean and hungry outfit that's bringing it on and having fun too boot. Highly Recommended!!

Evil Elvis - Undead Or Alive 2017

Evil Elvis is back and ready to spread more mayhem than ever. It's been around 6 years now since the impressive "Tattoo'd Fuckwit" surfaced and in that time, he and his band of renegades have gotten leaner and meaner. That said the new Evil Elvis album " Undead Or Alive "is now out and this puppy is another winner. For the most part we get 10 tracks of psychobilly that collide with revved up rock n roll and pack a punch. It's also a great follow up for "Tattoo'd Fuckwit" as  it's a little less heavy on the gas and more diverse, resulting in a stronger and better album. Highlights include: "My Evil","My Psycho Love", "Backseat Love" and "Too Fast For You"
Evil Elvis and his band are in fine form here, hell this is one band that can more than hold their own.If you aren't familiar with Evil Elvis you should give "Undead Or Alive" a spin.Chances are your gonna like it .Recommended.

The House Of Haunt - Monsters On The Loose 2014

The big smoke known as Toronto,Canada has never really had a strong psychobilly scene, whereas the rockabilly scene has been pretty solid. Toronto  has produced a  number of rockabilly bands but psychobilly bands have been few and far between.Don't believe me ,go ahead and  start naming .It's kinda of a weird void .Back in 2011 the young upstarts The House Of Haunt crawled out of the depths of hell onto the T.O. scene. Needless  it's been a tough go but they have managed to crave out a bit of territory for themselves.Playing a brand of horror influenced psychobilly that's full of evil mayhem and fun. It's also psychobilly that's fleshed out with both strong male/ female lead vocals and at times driven by keyboards .That said the band released  the kool  Highway Horror cd single back in 1212 and it  has managed to garner some strong air play on billy based radio in Canada.
Now in 2014 the band has dropped their debut album "Monsters On The Loose " onto the unsuspecting public and this little monster is surprisingly strong.Bashing in with 12 original tracks that  include 2 live tracks ,some older tracks that have been released in the past  and a whack of new songs. We get a kool mix, from slow burners to straight up psycho rockers and a chunk of punk and rock n roll tossed in for good measure.Highlights include:  "Evil Feeds",""Dead", "Devil's Promise" and "The House Of Haunt".
With " Monsters On The Loose" The House Of Haunt  have released an album that is energetic, strong and diverse. You may want to check this one out and maybe keep an eye on these guys.Recommended.
