The Thirsty Crows - Hangman's Noose 2018

Over the years the Los Angeles psychobilly has gained a rep as a tough scene to get noticed in.Part of the reason is that a lot of the band's kinda sound the same.  Back in 2011, The Thirsty Crows came onto the scene with their self coined  "South Bay Rockabilly" sound. It's less rockabilly and more psychobilly with a huge shot of spaghetti,it's also damn kool. That sound helped the band get noticed and separated them  from the pack. They started out as a 3 piece ,put out a sweet self titled ep in 2014 and then morphed into a 4 piece, which gave them a fuller and  more dangerous sound. Then in late 2017 they signed up with Batcave Records. The result of all this is their debut album,  "Hangman's Noose", a stout release that hits with  confidence and scores a direct punch . Coming in with 14 tracks of modern psychobilly packed with a whack of spaghetti, some punk, rockabilly and a tinge of Americana .All 5 songs from the band's ep are redone here and long time fans won't be disappointed. It's a sweet and dark ride that surprises.Highlights include: " Hangman's Noose"," Heart Attack"," Midnight Rumble" and "Vengeful Son"

Overall, "Hangman's Noose" is a well balanced ,and well produced effort that never gets heavy handed. The Thirsty Crows are a band that mean business here and this puppy cuts the mustard.Recommended!

The 427's - Stay Gold 2018

The 427's  have quietly become one of Canada's top surf bands. With little fan fare they have managed to garner enough  airplay  to achieve some top chart success  on college radio across the country.Hell, for a surf band that's pretty much unheard.Thier "Surf Noir" ep and the debut album "Mavericks" will convince you that this outfit is a serious contender. The band's latest offering "Stay Gold" has now washed ashore and once again they have another winner on their hands. This time out we get 14 original tracks of kool surf. From traditional to noir (spy) to spaghetti and even shades of exotica. This is one sweet and well produced  slab of surf that delivers.Highlights include: " Bullitt", " Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", "Escape From Alcatraz", "Bikini Thief " and the fun romping "Liberty Belle"

Overall this is The 427's best effort to date and you just know that that they haven't shown their full hand yet. It's smart and sexy surf that will definitely colour you impressed. Highly recommended

Doyley & The Twanglords - Twang Solo 2017

The ever busy and prolific Philip Doyle (aka Doyley) is at it again. Now he's flexing his musical muscles  with  Doyley & The Twanglords and the stellar album "Twang Solo". This puppy crashes ashore with 20 kool instrumental tracks that range from traditional surf to surfpunk  to psycho surf .If that wasn't enough throw in some sci- fi, spy, b movie madness and shades of spaghetti. It all makes for a  rich and diverse mix  that will have you coming back for more. Also some of the tracks originally date back to Doyley's Klingonz days as well as tracks from The Zorchmen and The Guitar Slingers.Highlights include: "Twangzilla" , "D-Twang", "One Of Our Spies Is Missing", "Graviton" and the remix of "ZorchX14"
Diablo Records have another winner with " Twang Solo",hell even the album art work by Eugenio Magno is sweet. It's a top shelf surf album that gives you a big bang for your buck and hopefully Doyley & The Twanglords isn't a one off project . This is one you diffidently want to get your hands on. Highly Recommended!!  https://diablorecordsuk.bandcamp.com/album/doyley-the-twanglords-twang-solo

Los Tiros - Expertos En Cagarla 2015

Los Tiros is a surf band from Guatemala and sadly most of us haven't heard of them. Until a few weeks ago I hadn't heard of them either.Let's just say you really gotta give these cats a listen. This is  instro / spaghetti surf that you can sink your teeth into. The band's debut "Tu Pesadilla Regresó, Bienvenido al Infierno"came out 2013 album (I haven't heard it but I hear it's killer). Their sophomore album  "Expertos En Cagarla" was released in late 2015  and started getting noticed here in North America in mid 2016. This is one album that will blow you away.It smashes in with 13tracks that hit the ground hard and it doesn't let up.We get a blast of spaghetti surf that collides with surf punk and still at times comes off as revved up traditional surf. This may be the fastest western/spaghetti  surf album out there and it's damn good to boot!Highlights include: " Colt del Tipo 420", " El Último Tiro", "  Forjado a Fuego Lento en Fort Knox", and " Big Chief ".
There has been a whack of excellent surf music released in the last couple of years and " Expertos En Cagarla" is up there with some of the best. You really want to check  Los Tiros out .You will not be disappointed. Highly recommended!!

The Surfaders - A Greater Silence 2015

Back in 2012 The Surfaders released the mighty fine " Dragstrip Murder Mystery"and it caught more than a few surf fans off guard. The band found itself firmly planted on the surf map and quickly became one of the  surf bands to watch.Their blend of traditional ,spaghetti, surf noir with a smearing of punk was and is refreshing and kinda kool. Now in 2015 there back ,better and still have a few surprises too boot. The band's sophomore effort  "A Greater Silence"  ups the game and changes direction. This puppy washes ashore with 12 original tunes that cover the usual ground of surf but this time out the band heads more into  spaghetti western territory. Not only that we get vocals and not just on a couple of tracks but 5.The Vocals will throw most but don't let that fool you this is still really good surf. Highlights include: " Sarpha", "Little Johnny from Hangman's Tree", "Dust from the Sun" and the killer " Sharkbait"
The Surfaders aren't a band that's afraid to change it up and push the boundaries .With "A Greater Silence"  they prove that. This is a damn good album that manages to surprise, challenge you and leaves you wondering where  The Surfaders go next. Recommended!!

It's been 4 years since their last album so the recent release of " El Misterio Del Talisman" will have fans jumping for joy. This new puppy crashes ashore with  a punch,we get 15 killer tracks that get the job done.
