The 427's - Stay Gold 2018

The 427's  have quietly become one of Canada's top surf bands. With little fan fare they have managed to garner enough  airplay  to achieve some top chart success  on college radio across the country.Hell, for a surf band that's pretty much unheard.Thier "Surf Noir" ep and the debut album "Mavericks" will convince you that this outfit is a serious contender. The band's latest offering "Stay Gold" has now washed ashore and once again they have another winner on their hands. This time out we get 14 original tracks of kool surf. From traditional to noir (spy) to spaghetti and even shades of exotica. This is one sweet and well produced  slab of surf that delivers.Highlights include: " Bullitt", " Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", "Escape From Alcatraz", "Bikini Thief " and the fun romping "Liberty Belle"

Overall this is The 427's best effort to date and you just know that that they haven't shown their full hand yet. It's smart and sexy surf that will definitely colour you impressed. Highly recommended

Les Venturas - Retropedalage 2018

Over the years France has produce more than a few damn fine and interesting surf bands .One of latest bands to emerge  is Les Venturas. Starting out in 2014 as a Ventures tribute act they managed to make more than a few waves  in Europe. In July of 2015 they released the sweet  " Tribute To The Ventures, 17 Surf Rock Classic Hits".Since then this surf trio has continued to gain a rep as a stout band that executes, top shelf  "old school" inspired  surf.In 2017 the band was picked up by Productions Impossible Records and now the results are in.The band's sophomore album "Retropedalage"hits the shore with 14 original tracks of kool traditional inspired surf .This time out they ratchet up the speed and aggression a notch. You could say they let loose a little  here and raise the tension, all while still keeping it still planted in traditional surf.Highlights include: "Escalator", "Vodka & Paella", "Retropedalage" and "Seraphino"

Overall " Retropedalage" is a pretty strong and refreshing surf album and one you should pick up.If  Les Venturas aren't on your radar ,they should be.Highly recommended!

The Surfaders - A Greater Silence 2015

Back in 2012 The Surfaders released the mighty fine " Dragstrip Murder Mystery"and it caught more than a few surf fans off guard. The band found itself firmly planted on the surf map and quickly became one of the  surf bands to watch.Their blend of traditional ,spaghetti, surf noir with a smearing of punk was and is refreshing and kinda kool. Now in 2015 there back ,better and still have a few surprises too boot. The band's sophomore effort  "A Greater Silence"  ups the game and changes direction. This puppy washes ashore with 12 original tunes that cover the usual ground of surf but this time out the band heads more into  spaghetti western territory. Not only that we get vocals and not just on a couple of tracks but 5.The Vocals will throw most but don't let that fool you this is still really good surf. Highlights include: " Sarpha", "Little Johnny from Hangman's Tree", "Dust from the Sun" and the killer " Sharkbait"
The Surfaders aren't a band that's afraid to change it up and push the boundaries .With "A Greater Silence"  they prove that. This is a damn good album that manages to surprise, challenge you and leaves you wondering where  The Surfaders go next. Recommended!!

It's been 10 years now since  Los Tiki Phantoms  rode their first wave and over that time they have become  one the most popular surf bands in the world and rightfully so.Their 3 albums and 2 singles are a testament to just how good they really are. This is a surf band that not only mixes it up but also can light it up.From traditional to garage to smash mouth and spaghetti, these kats can  not  only cover the surf map  but do it well to boot. It's been 4 years since their last album so the recent release of " El Misterio Del Talisman" will have fans jumping for joy. This new puppy crashes ashore with  a punch,we get 15 killer tracks that get the job done.
