Lew Lewis and The Twilight Trio - Red Hot Baby

Since forming only a couple of years ago (late 2012)  Lew Lewis and The Twilight Trio have done a  solid job getting their name out there.First they quickly put out a demo cd,played a whack of gigs ,developed a good rep  and then went to Western Star Studios to work on their debut album.One thing you have to know about these guys is that there is some serious pedigree(Jack Rabbit Slim  and Rocket 88) here and that sure isn't going to hurt .The band's debut album  "Red Hot Baby" has hit the streets and it's one smokin' fine disc that is hard to resist.This puppy sways back and fourth from rockabilly to the blues and comes off as a kool rock n roll  album.There is an underlining vibe here that you just can't shake.Highlights include: " Stroll Earthquake","Crazy Little Mama","Fool Around" and "How Could You Be So Mean".

The Psychonauts - Do the Hoochie-Coochie-Trash-a-Billy Stomp 2014

There is a few bands that go by the name The Psychonauts and most of them suck .Hell there are even two psychobilly bands with  the name and you don't see that every day.The Psychonauts that concern us are the psychobilly/rockabilly band from Switzerland and this outfit is pretty damn good .Hell there kinda funny ,a bit out there and have a rep for been a killer band .Despite only having a couple of demos and been around since 2009,their rep is strong enough that people have just assumed they have an album or 2 out but sadly that not the case until now .The band's debut album "Do the Hoochie-Coochie-Trash-a-Billy Stomp" is now out and let's just say this is helluva fun ride. Clocking in with 12 tracks that will get you off your ass ,this is one puppy that's hard to resist. This may sit at the corner of psychobilly and rockabilly but it's injected with  "Garage Trash",punk and straight up rock n roll.Highlights include: "The Psychonauts"," Southside","Let`s Go" and the title track  "Hoochie Coohie Trash 'a' Billy Stomp".

      The Psychonauts are one of those bands that can rock out with the best of them  but doesn't take itself  so seriously and you gotta like that .Do the Hoochie-Coochie-Trash-a-Billy Stomp is  good in fact  it  may surprise a lot people by how good it really is. Marc & The Wild Ones - She Put A Spell On Me 2014

You gotta give it to Marc & The Wild Ones since blasting onto the scene in 2011 they have continually been damn impressive.Right from the get go these young upstarts put out a killer debut album "The Rockin' Beat Of" and have earned a rep as a kool and  must see band. Their brand of rockabilly/ rock n roll is fresh and nothing short of infectious. If there was any doubt about how good they are it can be put to rest .The release of  "She Put A Spell On Me" proves these kats are for real.No sophomore jinx here as this puppy delivers the goods.We get 13 originals and 1 cover that firmly stay on the rockabilly/rock n roll path .You could say that this is just what you would expect but this time out the song writing is much stronger and  more consistent.Also the band shows some restraint at times(a good thing) and that helps to put the album over .Highlights include: "Be Boppin' Baby ","Little Ann","Real Rockin Baby " and "I Love My Baby".

Brian Setzer - Rockabilly Riot: All Original 2014

 Brian Setzer  is arguably one of the best guitar players out there,hell he is also one of the most influential guitar players to emerge since the 80's. You could also say that his fan base is divided into 3 camps.The mainstream fans who love all of his work,the swing camp and then the rockabilly camp.You can put me firmly in the rockabilly camp, so chances are you will probably know how I feel about  Setzer's latest  release "Rockabilly Riot! All Original". So let's get to the point: we get 12 original tunes that for the most part sticks to straight up   rockabilly and a few that stray into country.This puppy cooks  pretty damn good and it's easily Setzer's best since the "Ignition" album in 2001.Highlights include:"I Should Have Had a V8","Vinyl Records","Let’s Shake" and "Stiletto Cool".

The Altar Billies - Head'n Out West 2014

The Altar Billies  to say the least are one interesting band.These kats have been kicking around Orange County,California  now for about 7 years and despite been one of the better West Coast bands they kinda remain a secret. What they play isn't your typical rockabilly it's like a hot stew of rockabilly and roots with splashes of country ,punk, Americana, hillbilly, gospel and  at times they come off like cow punk.That said they are truly a unique rockabilly band .The band's output consist of a self-tilted  album in 2012 and a handful of singles.All of which are top shelf by the way. So now in 2014 the band has dropped their sophomore album "Head'n Out West" and this puppy is a diffident head turner .Clocking in with 15 tracks(9 of which are new and the rest have appeared before as singles and or videos) that make for one strong and kool rockabilly/roots mash up . The Altar Billies have never been afraid of mixing things up  and that's part of their strength .Highlights include : "Standing On the Rock","Is It Me?","Head'n Out West" and the stellar "I'm Still Stand'n".

Screamers and Sinners - Demon Tales 2014

Too be honest when  "Demon Tales" by Screamers and Sinners  came across our desk I kinda had that so-so approach to it,thinking they were probably some  horrorbilly band and put off listening to it .Yup I'm the dummy here and I was totally wrong.This is one out there and kool psychobilly band that mixes it up  and are pretty good too boot.Hailing from the Basque Country of Spain these psycho kats have only being together for a couple years now and have some punk and instrumental rock pedigree when it comes to the Spanish scene .The band's debut album "Demon Tales" is one hell of a cracker with 11 killer tracks that at times stray out of the box for psychobilly. We get  psychobilly mashing with some surf,straight up punk,spaghetti,a little hillbilly and plain rock n roll.But what really puts this over is the use of the saxophone(also has some nifty harp action),it really helps drive this puppy to another level .Highlights include: "Alien", "Lonesome Thief", "Sarg-Surfen" and "Kendricks Psycho Mansion"
   Bottom line on  "Demon Tales" is that it may be a bit outside of the box for some but it is worth the gamble.This is top shelf material ,well written,very strong,well executed and straight up good .Seriously keep an eye on these psychos .Recommended    https://www.facebook.com/ScreamersSinners/timeline
      

The Bullets - Go Man Go 2014

In early 2013 The Bullets released their stellar debut album "Sons Of The Gun" onto an unsuspecting public.The band managed to make some serious buzz on both sides of the Atlantic and deservedly so.Playing a brand of wild and  modern rockabilly that is a  blast of fresh air. Word of mouth spread  about these kats which led to some pretty solid airplay in North America and their album also made a few top ten list of 2013. Well The Bullets are back a year later with a sophomore album that's frankly a knock out .  "Go Man Go" comes out of the corner hard and fast and delivers in spades.With 14 original  tracks that ooze kool this puppy has a vibe you just can't resist.Highlights include: " Ex Hex","Last Man Standing"," Kicks Like ‘56" and the title track " Go Man Go".

       The Bullets have really upped their game here and having the album recorded and produced at and by Western Star Records only makes " Go Man Go" even stronger. Furious - From The Cavern To California

Much has been said about Liverpool's Teddy-boy rockers Furious and pretty well all of it is positive .This is a rock n roll band that really brings it on .Since forming in 2005 these kats have earned a great rep as a killer live band. In 2007 they released the attention grabbing ep "Asbo Shuffle" and then their stellar debut album  "Wreck The Hoose Juice" in 2010 ,both  basically cemented them as a band to watch.In 2012 the band put out the kool single "The Teds Don't Need A King" which was the also their  last Nervous Records  release .Last year the band signed with Wild Records and the results are now out. The newly released  "From The Cavern To California" is nothing short of a blast of rock n roll  and I'm talking ass-kicking rock n roll .Coming in with 12 tracks full of attitude that have the muscle to back it up,Furious have delivered a wake up call here.This is rock n roll with a whole lot of Teddyboy  and  a little rockabilly thrown in too boot. For the most part this is uptempo and in your face but there is also a few slower numbers .Highlights include: "Evil Little Eye", "Bucky Is My Baby", "Valley Of Doom" and "I'm Gonna Wash My Hands Of You".

        From The Cavern To California   is a well produced album that sounds raw ,tough and and at times urgent .Easily the best release so far by Furious and that's saying something,this is killer rock n roll. Highy Recommended.  https://www.facebook.com/Furiousrocknroll   

Ginger St. James & The Grinders - Diesel and Peas 2014

When it comes to stout music scenes, the city of Hamilton ,Ontario takes a back seat to no one .Hell it  has always been one of the top towns when it comes to Canuck rock n roll. Seriously the word is that if a band can breakout of the Hammer you  can damn well bet they're good. Case in point Ginger St. James & The Grinders  and these kats have been making major waves for a few years now. More than a few  people considered them a  rockabilly band  but really that's not even the half of it.Sure they have a big billy influence but they are also equally blues and country based. So far the band has dropped  the mini album "Spank, Sparkle & Growl" and the ep "TEASE" both of which are strong outings that show that this is one band to be reckoned with .All  which brings us to the band's latest offering, the smooth and kool " Diesel and Peas". This puppy cashes in with an intro, 5 new tracks and 5 that have appeared before.This is a strong and consistent album  that glides in and out of rockabilly, country and the blues with ease. Highlights include: "Please Mr. Driver","Furious", "Zipper" and "Beer Bottle Pockets".   

        There is a lot to like on  "Diesel and Peas" and that's partly due to the fact that Ginger St. James is a mighty fine singer  but  also The Grinders are just as fine and equal here .What we have here is a band firing on all pistons and the result is a fresh and vibrant album that pretty well everyone can dig.
