Skitzo - Love’n'Hate 2013

Way back in the mid eighties Skitzo was a psychobilly band that seem to have it going on.Then it kinda went off the rails when the band's musical direction changed .With that and  some membership changes the band was done by 1990. The band's first album released in 1987 "SkitzoMania"is still seen today by many as a classic psychobilly album.During  the band's first comeback in 1995 they released the killer ep "The Glove" and by end of 1997 they were gone.Now  in 2013 Skitzo are back with their fourth album "Love'n' Hate". Guess what this puppy is actually damn good and in many ways may be there best effort yet.Yes it is old school psychobilly and the band sounds in fine form here.Hell they even show some restraint at times and that's a good thing. 

Highlights include:"The Blade","Love'n'Hate"," D.E.A.T.H." and a  solid redo of "Doctor Death". Also the bonus track is a redo of "SkitzoMania" and there is a kool cover of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".Like many people I really didn't know what to expect from Skitzo. Safe to say "Love’n'Hate" will surprise many by just how good it really is. Skitzo has made a big statement here. Deke Dickerson - Echosonic Eldorado 2013

When it comes to Deke Dickerson  you just know that this man delivers,from rock n roll,surf to country and rockabilly he has done it all(and quite well I may add). You could say he has been the flag bearer of American roots music.I'm guessing he has well over 30 albums out now if you count the groups he has been in (Dave and Deke Combo,The Go-Nuts,The Untamed Youth , Blind Rage&Violence and Venturesmania) .Oh and he just released an album with Nikki Hill. Deke has always had the ability to surprise and that brings us to"Echosonic Eldorado" believe it or not: this is his first all rockabilly album and it's pretty damn solid .Coming in with 14 toe tapping  rockin' tunes,this is one very satisfying disc.There is also some pretty kool guest on the album: Duane Eddy, "Crazy" Joe Tritschler and Carl Sonny Leyland  all which add some muscle to the proceedings. Highlights include: "Bop Wax","Little Innocent","Cut Loose" and "Big Guitar".

The Tumblin' Go Go's - Turmoil 2013

For just over 10 years now The Tumblin' GoGo's  have been spewing out kool and powerful rockabilly/psychobilly .Hugely underrated this is a band that many have heard mention of but few have actually listened to.Let's just say this is a killer Dutch band and a busy one to boot.With a run of 6 albums  including last years stellar "Paralyzed" these boys have a hell of a discography and one that's hard to beat.
  If that's not enough the band's 7th album "Turmoil" is now out and it's pretty damn good.Clocking in with 11 tracks to wrap your head around. This is one barn burner that sits at the corner of rockabilly and psychobilly but stretches down the street to country, a little punk and blues. Highlights include:"Truck Driver", "Lost In Corpus Christi", " Stiletto Heels", and "Turmoil"

     The Tumblin' Go Go's are a band that not only should you be aware of but also one that is in your library .Turmoil is one of the better albums this year and a good starting point if you don't know who these guys are! The Pinstripes – Still Kickin’ 2013

Since crawling out of Germany's southern swamps in 2001 The Pinstripes have been dishing out a brand of "kick-ass rockabilly". What they play is a fusion  of 50's and 80's billy with a bit of an edge that comes off as pretty kool rock n roll. So far the band has delivered the goods with  two damn fine albums,"First Kick"(05) and"Road To Hell"(09). Now in 2013 comes the band's 3rd and best best album yet: "Still Kickin’".This puppy strolls in with 13 tracks that will light a fire under your butt.These kats have upped the ante with 10 originals and 2 are  in German(a first for the band). The band stays mainly on a rockabilly course but we do get shades of country, surf and psychobilly on a few  tracks.Highlights include: "Man Lebt Nur Einmal", "Cheat On Me", "Hot Little Mama"and an interesting cover of Jethro Tull's "Locomotive Breath"(with some kool blue's harp).

Surfer Joe - Señor Surf 2013

Anyone who claims to be a big surf fan knows who Surfer Joe is and rightfully so. He is the "International Surf Music Ambassador". From putting on festivals to helping set tours up to bookings to hosting a radio show and he is also  a musician .The man has sat in with many top surf bands and also formed the Wadadli Riders(2005-2011) , his current band  is The Boss Combo.So that brings us to Surfer Joe's first solo album " Señor Surf ". This puppy washes ashore with 12 pretty fine tracks of traditional surf that actually sound like they were done in the early 60's.Of the 10 originals here a few of them date back a couple of years and one "The North Swell" was released previously on  Double Crown's "Brave New Surf" compilation in 2011.Highlights include: "Macaroni Pie","Waveboard Action","Twangy Drippy Twisty" and "El Señor Surf".

    This is one killer surf album no matter how you look at it  and if your a surf fan it is a must have.If your not into surf this is a great introduction.Definitely one of the better surf albums to come down the pike in the last couple of years and that's saying something. Screamin Rebel Angels - Hitch Hike 2013

Since 2011 these Brooklyn bashers have been turning heads and knocking them dead with their fireball brand of modern rockabilly.Their" Pounce Like a Tiger"ep (2011) and the single "Out Of This World"(2012) showed that this band means business and is not just your average rockabilly inspired band.Now the Screamin  Rebel Angels have dropped their debut album  and this puppy has more than enough spark and sizzle to satisfied .We get 12 tracks here that range from straight up rockabilly to shades of country and blues to rock n roll. The band also throws in a little bit of harp action on one track and some sax on another . This has all the elements of  modern rockabilly and it is done very well.Highlights include: "Savage Stomp","Mayday","Sizzle" and one of the best versions  of  Leiber and Stoller's "Saved" that your ever going to hear.

The Swampy's - Last One Before Snuffin' Out??? 2013

Way back in 1986 The Swampy's  crawled of of the Lowlands . In 1988 this Belgium psychobilly band  released  an ep and then their debut album  "Come back to the Swamp" all to  mix reviews.By 89  the band was gone.Over the years their recordings became very sought after.In 2009 these psycho kats  emerged again and have been  on a mission ever since.The band's 2nd album is finally here "Last One Before Snuffin' Out???",guess what this  is a surprisingly good and solid slice of old school psychobilly.Coming in with 10 tracks these boys stay the course and have never sounded better.Highlights include:" Born In 65 ", "
Valley Of The Dead"," Anthony Starck" and  a kool redo of  "The Coffin Maker" (off their 1988 ep).

    This is easily The Swampy's best release and a damn good comeback album too boot.Old school psychobilly fans  should pick this up but even if your not this puppy is worth throwing some of your hard earned cash down on  https://www.facebook.com/TheSwampys

Jack Rabbit Slim – Won’t Stay Down -2013

The one thing everybody agrees with about  Jack Rabbit Slim is that they are pretty damn good.With every release this band just seems to get better.Known as proprietors of sleaze-a-billy these kats have become one of the biggest rockabilly based acts out there.After all  this is one kool,unique and killer rock band .That said JRS hit the ground running with a new line-up for " Won’t Stay Down"(the band's 6th album,not counting the one with Sue Moreno) .This puppy whacks you with 12  impressive tracks that deliver the goods. We get that rockabilly,garage punk and rock n roll mix that one would expect but it kinda sounds stronger this time around.Highlights include "Pretty In Ink", "Revenge Of The Puppets ","Room 337 ","10lbs Of Sad (In A 5lbs Bag).
