Rebel Son - Queen Of All Trades 2012

The kings of redneck rockabilly  Rebel Son have offended more than their fair share of people since 2002 .It's all about stupid women ,lose women,sex, more sex and drinking.At times these guys are funny but even the most die-fans have to agree sometimes you gotta give it a rest.That said the band's 9th album  "Queen Of All Trades" is easily their best since 2005's "Choke On Smoke". We get 13 original tracks of the usual potty mouthiness about sex and women but these boys have pulled up their boot straps.This is pretty good  honky tonkin' ,redneck rockabilly(some call this drunkabilly). Highlights include:"Wicked Queen" ' "Sarah Jean,The Nuthouse Queen", "Queen Of All Trades " and the kool "River Of Hate". Like some people out there I lost interest in Rebel Son  a few years back  . Born Losers - Cycle Guitars 2012

Off and on since 2003 the Barcelona based  Born Losers have made a pretty good name for themselves . Much has been made of the fact that they are heavily influenced by  Davie Allan and the Arrows  but there is much more to them.This is classic surf mashing with garage that's fuzzed out,retro-oozing  and still sounds fresh.The band has released a few singles so for fans of the band  "Cycle Guitars" has been a long time coming  and it's one hell of a debut album.Clocking in with 13 very strong  tracks that are a lock for any surf or garage fan. Hell this is just kool rock n roll .Highlights include: "Be Seeing You", "Fukushima Speedway", "Fast Shift" and a killer version of "Funnel of Love". Cold Blue Rebels - Love Of The Undead 2013

A couple of years ago The Cold Blue Rebels  released their debut album "Blood, Guts, n' Rock & Roll" and it caught a lot of people off guard.Here was a new group with a killer album that pushed the limits of billy music.The one question about the band was if their debut  was a fluke or not.Well the follow-up is here and one thing for sure is that these guys mean business. "Love Of The Undead"rocks in with 6 tracks that will kick your ass.Again the band pushes the genre limits  from rockabilly to punk/hard rock to psychobilly.There isn't a bad song here.One track however really stands out "Whip Me One More Time" has some kool harp and slide guitar, you could call this psychobilly boogie blues .The Cold Blue Rebels  are not just  flexing their musical muscles here ,they're backing it up.Recommended https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cold-Blue-Rebels/126896400678007  http://www.reverbnation.com/coldbluerebels

Messer Chups - Church of Reverb 2013

With something like 16 albums under their belt Messer Chups has remain a cult band too many.The truth is that these purveyors of  trashy culture meets surf  may just be one of the bigger surf/instrumental bands out there. Church of Reverb  the bands new release beats a familiar path but it also is their best effort  in a few years .Riding in with 14 tracks of  killer surf that has a generous heaping of twang,reverb,trashiness,and horror thrown in.As in the past the band mixes things up with  vocals(not much) and I have to say some kool horn action.Highlights include: "Surf'n Rolla","Mickey Rat","Black Saddle" and the wacky "Popcorno Revenge". Church Of Reverb is more than just solid ,it's damn good.If your a fan you'll love it and if you don't know about Messer Chups you should and this is a good starting point.Recommended https://www.facebook.com/messerchups    http://www.messerchups.ru/

Bourbon Boys - Shotguns, Trucks & Cattle 2013

I'll be the first to admit that I am  not a big fan of country rock but when a band from outside the genre jumps in head first you just know sparks could fly.Case in point: the Swedish industrial metal band Raubtier's side project Bourbon Boys.These headbangers wanted to deliver an album of "hard country and diesel powered rockabilly". Well  'Shotguns, Trucks & Cattle" has that and more. I don't think this is  your typical country rock,we get a mash up of country,hillbilly,bluegrass, rockabilly and American 80's rock.Sure most of the songs deal with drinking,women, hunting ,more drinking and bits about tractors but don't let that fool you ,this is fun stuff. Highlights include:"Hellfire", "Rock in Rollin Man", "Cormorant Blues" and "Country Highway". Bevel Emboss - Celluloid 2012

2012 was a big year for surf music with a shitload of releases that were nothing short of  killer .One of the better surf  albums in most  anyone's book has to be "Celluloid" by Bevel Emboss.This new Dutch band laid down 15 original tracks of high end surf .Combining traditional surf, some touches of spy/spaghetti  and  world beat influences  into creating a rich surf stew .Highlights include: "Tarantula", "Facade" , "I Thought She Was There" and the kool "Rumba Nova". At times this is powerful and urgent but it also has a kool sophistication to it.This is one well written and well executed album that sounds great. The Magnificatz - Running Late 2012

 The  Magnificatz  have been around  in one form or another since 2007.Hailing from the English Midlands they have  made a name for themselves playing a fun brand of rockabilly.With one ep already under their belt  the band has recently dropped it's debut album "Running Late" and it's fun and kinda refreshing. Coming in with 13 originals  for your  listening pleasure.This is rockabilly with   some country throw-in  and  we get  "a splash of Voodoo" to boot.This is rockabilly that doesn't take itself too seriously and you gotta like that. Highlights include:"Greasy Love", "Cat Come Scratching", "Dead Man's Ball" and " Daddio". Bloodshot Bill - So Blue 2012

Love him or hate him Bloodshot Bill has been doing things his way since 2001.This Canuck is one of the hardest working acts out there and he's been damn prolific the whole time .His brand of rockabilly/hillbilly as been called everything from "pure shit' , trashy, greasy to kool , authentic rockabilly  to pure genius .That said we now have album #16 or is it #18  and it's called "So Blue"  and some are saying that it's Bloodshot Bill's country album.What we get here is 14 tracks that are totally enjoyable and I mean that.Yeah we get country but we get more of the rockabilly-hillbilly and some slashes of blues. Hell just what you  would expect .Highlights include:"Bounce Baby Bounce", "You're No Good", "No Help Wanted" and "Pinch Me". Over the last 3-4 years Bloodshot Bill has released albums and eps that have consistently gotten better and better with each release.So Blue continues that streak.If your a fan you'll love it,if your on the fence here take a chance.For those who don't like him nothing I say here  will change your mind but I'm liking this puppy. Los Primitivos – Electric Recordings 2012

These rockabilly kats from Buenos Aires have been kicking around since1988.It wasn't until  2007 that they put out their debut album "Hasta that caigas muerto" . Having developed a solid following the band was asked to perform at the 2009 edition of Psycho Carnival in Brazil  and these boys killed it .They were one of the highlights of the fest and all of a sudden people outside of South America  knew who they were .Interest in the band  resulted in the reissue of their album.That brings us "Electric Recordings" and really it's been a long time coming.This puppy swings pretty good and clocks in with 8 tracks(plus a hidden bonus track a Misfits cover: Hybrid Moments). We get mainly rockabilly here but the band also deliverers some country and a little bit of hillbilly.Highlights include: "One and Only", "Nacido para Perder" , "La Combinacion Perfecta" and a kool cover of "Bloodshot Eyes". Now that was an interesting show…technology not working, trainee, John and I mumbling through the airwaves and a First time listener that called in wanting something psychedelic, explaining that we are a rockabilly, psychobilly & surf show and then He asked for some psychedelic psychobilly (what ever the hell that meant) Guess He thought that if the two words started with Psycho all was good!!!!
