Maibell and The Misfires - Destiny 2013

Since forming in late 2008 Maibell and The Misfires  have become  one of Finland's  most talked about rockabilly groups. The bands debut album "Ride Along "(2010) was a really solid release that had many championing the band .For some the bands music was great modern rockabilly for others it was poppy and too slick. No matter what your take was or is Maibell and The Misfires  are a pretty damn good band.So now the band is back with "Destiny" and I have to say it's not only a fine follow-up to their debut but it is also better.Coming in with 13 original tracks of billy bliss that is infused with some rock n roll and tinges of pop  .This is a band that transverses the line between  a roughness one moment to a slickness the next  and you gotta respect that.Highlights include "Keep Movin' ", "Destiny", "Killing Love" and "Thinking Of You". Maibell and The Misfires may not blow you away but  they sure know how to put you in a groove and they sound great. The Gutter Ghouls - Motorcity Murderbilly 2013

The Gutter Ghouls are the latest buzz band out of Detroit and that's saying something when you consider that they are a punkabilly/psychobilly band. This is one hard working outfit  that has a rep for been a killer live act.As a result the band has garnered some great press and has developed a pretty decent following all in  just over a years time.So now the release of  "Motorcity Murderbilly"(great name) their debut and the band lives up to the buzz. This puppy clocks in with 8 blistering tracks of punkabilly than at times crosses over into psychobilly.I'm talking more punk than psycho here and it's  damn good to boot.Highlights include "Lock N' Load", "The Devils Work" , "Corpse And Bride" and "King Rat". The Gutter Ghouls are more than just a punk band with a upright bass, there's enough here to please  both punks and psychos .This is a band you should check out.https://www.facebook.com/TheGutterGhouls   http://www.reverbnation.com/thegutterghouls

Hotrod Frankie - God, Gasoline & Me 2013

These Swedish psychos have been kickin around since 2005 and have developed a pretty good following.Whats kool about Hotrod Frankie is that it really is a side project (of Ultima Thule) that has taken on it's own life so the term  "Frankinbilly" that many use to describe their music kinda  fits. Anyway " God, Gasoline & Me" is the band 4th album and it's arguably their best.Smashing in with 11 original psycho rockers, this puppy may start slow with the lead-off track "Darkness In Her Room'  but then  quickly  hammers down on the gas and you gotta like that.Highlights include"Three Blind Mice","Electric","The World" and "Gates Of Hell". This is a fast and hard  ride that's totally enjoyable. If you have never listened to Hotrod Frankie you should  and this is a great starting point. The Rockcats - Rockin Together 2013

It's been almost 10 years since the legendary Rockats  have put out an album. So when news hit that Lanark Records and The Rockats were joining forces  for a new release it was and is a big deal. For some folks  this is one of the premiere bands of 80's rockabilly so you just know expectations are high for this release. That said " Rockin Together" more than holds it's own, this is a damn killer album.Clocking in with 12 new originals  of  mostly rockabilly with some country, blues and even a little shade of surf added to the mix.No dogs here, this is well crafted, sounds great and has a really good flow to it.Highlights include:"The Doubt", " Road To Hell", " Tear The Roof Off" and "Bad Love". Even after all these years The Rockats still sound fresh and vital but then again would you really expect anything less.Recommended    https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Rockats/223175401087003

Flesh Roxon – Flesh To The Bone 2013

Flesh Roxon mean business, this Finnish band has been together for just over a year and have  made more noise than most bands do in a couple of years.Christ there was talk about these guys  here in Canada a few months ago. That said  they have one video out  and now have put out their debut album  "Flesh To The Bone". This puppy  smashes the door down with 11 tracks that hang out around  the corner of psychobilly and punkabilly. The album has a good mix of both psycho and punk  and as well a good dose of the  horror angle but that doesn't drag the disc down. Highlights include:"Flesh To The Bone", "Back From Your Grave"," Don't You Dare" and "Suck My Chainsaw". You would never guess Flesh Roxon has only been together  just over a year  as this is well executed, great sounding and pretty damn solid .This is a band to keep an eye on .Check it out!  http://fleshroxon.com/   https://www.facebook.com/fleshroxon?ref=ts&fref=ts

The Whiskey Daredevils - Whiskey Daredevils III 2013

I know some people  who think the only good thing to come out of Cleveland is The Whiskey Daredevils. As a matter of fact  most of them will not take kindly to you if you disagree(Cleveland is a kool town  in my books). One thing for sure is that  The Whiskey Daredevils are not just your average cow-punk band. What they play is a rich stew of countrified punk with a whack of rockabilly and rock n roll  thrown in .So now we have the band's 8th album  and it's called  "111"(they have a sense of humor). Coming in with 10 very strong tracks that are just what the doctor ordered .Highlights include: "Dragstrip Courage","Corina", "Swim The Lake Of Fire"and "Willie Nelson". The band is firing on all the pistons here and it's diffidently one of the bands better albums.  "111" is a fine addition to an already excellent discography by one of America's better bands .Recommended  http://www.whiskeydaredevils.com/news/   http://www.facebook.com/pages/Whiskey-Daredevils/48998473360?ref=ts
