Sean Berry of Double Crown Records and The Continental Magazine Interview on Shakin Katz Radio

On January 21 2015 Shakin Katz Radio had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Sean Berry.The interview was done live and was and is very informative.Sean formed  Double Crown Records back in 1996  and now the record label is considered to be the best and biggest surf record company  out there. Over the years the label has put out over 60 albums  and that is pretty impressive for an independent record label .The Continental Magazine  is also considered by many surf music fans to be  a must read.

The Number 9 Blacktops - The County Circle Track

Formerly known as Skinny Jim and The Number 9 Blacktops  and now as just The Number 9 Blacktops ,these kats have been  rockin' hard since 2006. This is a rockabilly / rock n roll band that over the years have put out 3 smokin' albums and have built a solid fan base.By their own admission they play a brand of "hot-rod rockabilly and motorcycle rock-n-roll "and it's hard not to like these kats. The band's 4th album "The County Circle Track" comes in with 12 tracks that are  full of swagger and more than delivers .Like in the past  these kats  have laid down an album that's a kool blast of billy and straight up rock n roll.Highlights include: " Interstate Rocker" , " Tijuana, Mexico" , " Drink and Holler " and " King of the Demolition Derby".

 
             The Number 9 Blacktops  are in fine form here and "The County Circle Track" is another damn   good album by them .These kats are on a winning streak and you probably should check them out. Twisted Rod - Bring It On Home

Considered to be one of the best bands from the Czech Republic,Twisted Rod is just flat out good.Since 2009 these kats have revved up and rocked out with their "authentic" and energetic rockabilly.Along the way they have created some genuine buzz and have ended up on Rhythm Bomb Records.When the band announced they were going into the Black Shack Recordings Studio's to record their first album ,it kinda of confirmed  the fact that this is a serious outfit.  Well that debut album has dropped and it's called "Bring It On Home". We get 15 tracks  of some pretty kool and killer rockabilly that basically  for the most part  push  the pedal to the metal. The band throws in 2 covers, a kool blues number and an interesting slow burner just to mix things up. Highlights include: "I Dig Rock", "When I Watch You", "Twisted Rod" and "I Love You My Way".

Hank Sundown and The Roaring Cascades - Teddy Boy Vikings 2014

These Norwegian Teddy boy rockers  have been at it since 2001 and have a rep as  pretty  good band. Hell more than a few people out there claim they are one of Europe's better rock n roll bands. Their brand of 50's rock ,rockabilly and Teddy boy rock n roll is one kool and infectious brew .So far the band has released 4 pretty solid albums that are all worth checking out.With the release of their 5th album "Teddy Boy Vikings" these kats have upped the game.This puppy kicks the door in with 14  originals that  will grab your attention. From the first cut to the last this is damn good rock n roll  that delivers the goods.All the elements  that make Teddy boy rock n roll kool are here. Highlights include: "Switchblade Bop" , "Blood on the Dance Floor", "Shut up Blondie" and "HVVRF"

The Sirroco Bros. - Sirroco 2014

Mysterious and dark The Sirroco Bros. are also a band that are considered to be a top flight  rockabilly band.Despite having a really solid  reputation over in Europe,  they are virtually unknown here in North America. Hell my first exposure to them was totally by accident.Since 2011  they have released a string of killer singles that will impress any die hard rockabilly fan.If you happen to miss all those singles don't fret The Sirroco Bros. have released all of them plus a couple of new tracks on one their debut album " Sirroco ". You could say it's a greatest hits or the complete works or better yet their "Singles Going Steady" but  one thing for sure is that it  is confirmation  of just how good these kats really are. We get 11 original  tracks here of primitive, dark and kool  rockabilly  that are impossible to resist. A lot of billy bands try but never manage to grab that 50's billy feel and sound but  The Sirroco Bros nail it. Highlights include : " Move Out" ," Devil Bones", " Cat", and "  I Put a Hex On You".

The Crossbones - Deadman's Curve 2014

From down under comes The Crossbones and this is one kool rockabilly trio that isn't afraid too mix it up.Since forming in 2013 these kats have made a name for themselves in Australia with their full throttle brand of billy music.They also have a rep for being a pretty fine live band that doesn't take itself too seriously.All that said the band's debut "Deadman's Curve " is an an album you should check out.Clocking in with 8 original kool and diverse tracks that deliver the goods.This is  modern rockabilly with splashes of country, spaghetti and  blues all thrown into the mix.Highlights include: " Big Mumma Bop" ," Splinters and Teeth", " Deadman's Curve" and the catchy " Your Car Ain't Cool".

    A big  plus for the album is that the songs pretty well all sound different and they manage to flow together giving it a good vibe. Even thou "Deadman's Curve" plays out in under 24 minutes it manages to punch hard ,sounds fresh,has a sense of humor  and is damn good .
